Our Sourcing: The Story Behind Every Bean
The Treasure of Ecuador: Fine Flavor Cocoa (Fino de Aroma)
Our chocolate is crafted exclusively from Fine Flavor Cocoa Beans, internationally known as Fino de Aroma — a designation reserved for the top 8% of cocoa produced worldwide. Grown primarily in Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru, this extraordinary variety is celebrated for its complex bouquet of aromas, delicate floral and fruity notes, and a naturally smooth finish that sets it apart from ordinary cocoa.
Unlike commodity cocoa, Fino de Aroma is a heritage variety, often derived from Arriba Nacional, a native Ecuadorian cacao tree renowned for its refined and sophisticated flavor profile. With sensory notes of jasmine, nuts, red fruits, and tropical flowers, it is the soul of our chocolate — elegant, balanced, and unmistakably authentic.
A Relationship with the Land and Its People
We work hand-in-hand with Ecuadorian farmers and cooperatives who practice sustainable and ethical cultivation. These communities combine ancestral knowledge with modern agronomy to preserve the integrity of the soil, protect biodiversity, and ensure that each cocoa pod is harvested at its aromatic peak. Every bean is a reflection of their dedication and expertise — a living expression of Ecuador’s fertile lands.
Ethics and Direct Trade
At the heart of Philippe Beaulieu lies a simple promise: to create extraordinary chocolate with integrity.
We believe that true luxury must be transparent and fair — which is why we engage in direct trade relationships with our partner farmers.
By working without intermediaries, we ensure that a higher share of value goes directly to the growers who make our craft possible. This model allows us to:
Guarantee fair and stable prices that exceed market standards.
Invest in long-term partnerships based on trust, respect, and shared growth.
Support community development, education, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Through direct collaboration, we don’t just purchase cocoa — we cultivate relationships. We visit our farmers regularly, exchange knowledge, and co-create solutions that improve both quality and livelihoods. Every bar of Philippe Beaulieu chocolate tells a story of people, purpose, and passion.
From Bean to Bar: A Commitment to Purity
We transform these precious beans with artistry and precision. Each batch is roasted, conched, and tempered to highlight the bean’s natural character — with no artificial additives, no excess sugar, and no compromise on flavor or nutrition. The result is chocolate that is as healthy as it is indulgent, expressing the true terroir of Ecuador in every bite.
